I was reading some Time Magazine editorials around the beginning of March, 2003.
I'd gotten through a very convincing
pro-war article, complete with illustrations of
dead children and had moved on to the anti-war article. I got about a paragraph
into
it and realized that I had seen more convincing arguments made in posts on the Angstlust Boards.
As time went on, I began examining editorials on all subjects in major newspapers, on major internet sources, and in magazines. I found the same to be true--many
editorials seemed hastily written and not backed up with evidence. That's a compliment to the Angstlust posters, but obviously not very flattering to any of the media.
Articulate is not about being pro-war or anti-war. Its co-founder, Kim, could argue the issue with me on into eternity, with me on the moderately pro-war side and she
toward the anti-war. What, then, is Articulate? It is your chance to express your opinion on any topic you want, no matter how serious or trivial it might seem. That said,
these articles ought to be of a higher caliber than what you'd find in a typical "rants" section on any teenager's website. If you've read this far and you're interested, I
hope you'll choose an issue that is of importance to you and submit an
editorial.
I am not in the business of telling anyone what to write,
so don't ask for guidelines other than what has been stated on the submission rules page.
I will say that spell
check, good grammar, and accuracy are your friends. Though we reserve the right to leave any article unpublished for any reason, we
anticipate that
all submissions will be posted to this site. We expect it to be an interesting, informative read for all who visit, and
will give periodic awards for most convincing argument,
most creative argument and best all-around editorial.
Rach has recently been added to the staff here at Articulate. Be sure to check out her first editorial, which is on the abortion issue.
Thanks for reading and be sure to check the submission rules before you submit your articles to us!
